Most important achievements (up to 3) of the year in any specific area(s) of population and development,
reproductive health and gender equality, including UNFPA cooperation, advocacy and resource leveraging efforts:

  1. In the area of RH the most significant achievements are : a. Increased resources mobilized for contraceptives; there was an increase in national government allocation for RH commodities ( from 200,000 to 500,000 US dollars) and an additional mobilized through sector budget support and the global Fund. b. UNFPA Supported Health centers, 22 Hospitals in 14 Districts to improve quality RH services. c. As part of UN Cares the CO sensitized 88 Dependants of staff in HIV prevention. 2. The Laws on GBV and RH were passed in the parliament c. the completion of the national GBV mapping study with support form UNFPA, which identified gaps in intervention of GBV programmes that will be used to formulate a joint programme against GBV.

  2. Most significant shortfalls (up to 3), compared to the UNDAF, Country Programme, and/or OMP:
Most significant shortfalls were related to the the late commencement of implementation of activities due to joint planning and preparatory activities related to the Delivering as one initiative. Though the CO made an effort to accelerate programme implementation, a few activities in the area of research, curriculum development and strategy formulation had to be postponed/rescheduled to 2009 due to competing priorities Monitoring and evaluation of programme including indicator setting and collection of data was another weak area in programme implementation. Another shortfall was related to the inadequate capacity of national counterparts (in terms of numbers) to implement program in the NEX

  3. Most important collaborative relationships in which UNFPA was involved to achieve results for the Strategic Plan Development and/or Management Results: The most important collaborative relationship was within the UN system in the Delivering as One initiative. 2008 marked the commencement of the implementation of the One programme. UNFPA had ensured that areas related to our mandate as indicated in the strategic plan and translated in our CP, were firmly taken into account in the One programme. Subsequently, the CO was able to mobilize resources from the One fund to meet resource gaps in UNFPA Annual Workplan.
