My Body Is My Own
We have the inherent right to choose what we do with our body, to ensure its protection and care, to pursue its expression. The quality of our lives depends on it. In fact, our lives themselves depend on it.
UNFPA Rwanda 2020 Key Results report
Dear Partners and Friends,
Through this report, we celebrate our joint achievements over 2020 and recommit our collective efforts to address the unfinished business, reaching first those left furthest behind.
The year 2020 marked a starting point in a decade of action in the delivery of the 2030 Agenda and the unfinished business of the ICPD Programme of Action. It marked a move from Commitments to Action in the pursuit of sexual and reproductive health and rights for all - while ensuring no one is left behind. We committed to making the next decade one of impact & results, especially for women and girls.
Looking back on our work in 2020, we have made great strides in fulfilling our promise to improve SRHR for all, despite the exceptional challenges encountered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
We deeply appreciate your collaboration and commitment to UNFPA work.
Supporting young mothers in Nyamasheke District to build new lives
Teenage pregnancy and early motherhood takes enormous effects on girls’ education, discrimination, stigmatization, and low income earning potential which leads to continuous poverty. Most girls who become pregnant are forced to drop out of school and are more likely to become pregnant again when not given right information and services.
While many communities joined the International Commemoration of the Day of the African Child in June 2020, with a commitment to protect children from violence, Francine Uwamahoro 17, from Nyamasheke District in the North- West of Rwanda, stayed home, hiding from the villagers because she was pregnant.
