The Deputy Secretary General to the UN Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro will pay an official visit to Rwanda on the 19th - 20th August 2009. The purpose of her visit is to meet with H.E. the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame and to attend the Intergovernmental Meeting on Delivering as One hosted by the Rwandan Government from 19th - 21st October at the Kigali, Serena Hotel.

Dr. Migiro will also meet with the Hon. Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Mr James Musoni, Hon Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Ms Rosemary Museminali, the Forum for Women Parliamentarians and UN staff in Rwanda.

Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro of Tanzania took office as Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations on 1 February 2007. She is the third Deputy Secretary-General to be appointed since the post was established in 1997.

Dr. Migiro served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation from 2006-2007, the first woman in the United Republic of Tanzania to hold that position since its independence in 1961. Before that, she was Minister for Community Development, Gender and Children for five years.
