Youth participation and leadership

Successful adolescent and youth sexual reproductive health programming requires that young people have opportunities and the ability to express their views to decision-makers and to practice their evolving skills and capacities, in their families and communities. UNFPA is supporting youth-led organizations and networks to participate in policy-making, and dialogue around the implementation of adolescent sexual and reproductive health programs. AfriYAN and other youth networks will be provided with technical and financial support to undertake activities aiming at influencing the decision-making process to make policy and legal environment more convenient for adolescents and youth to exercise their sexual reproductive health right.

UNFPA supports AfriYAN Rwanda, one of the largest youth-led networks in Rwanda that represent, connects, and engage every day with young people to advance their health, a gender-just and violence-free society, and sustainable development for young people.

With support from UNFPA, AfriYAN is fostering Meaningful Youth Participation with adolescents and youth in ICPD25 and SRHR. Through AfriYAN, Young people now have a place to share their voices and play an active role in shaping and advocating for the challenges faced by their fellow youth.
