The United Nations in Rwanda joined the local institutions to celebrate 16 days of activism against Gender Violence from 25 November to 10 December.

During those 16 days, several sensitisations campaigns took place including Conferences in universities, articles and talk shows in the media, songs and drama competitions, Public Announcements, march to demonstrate the zeal to combat violence...

"Violence against women takes many forms: sexual assault, child marriage, incest, wife beating, prostitution, female cutting, sexual violence during wars etc. Violence against women may also take many forms of psychological abuse, intimidation and harassment", said Cheikh fall, UNFPA Rwanda Deputy Representative. Äs United Nations, we want to see a world free from all those forms of violence", he added.

"The violations of human rights is a huge obstacle to gender equality and genuine human progress", Agnes Mujawamariya, Minister of Gender and family Promotion in Rwanda. She urged Rwandans to put an end to all forms of Gender based Violence.

This year's theme is one of empowerment: Commit. Act. Demand. We CAN End Violence Against Women. It reflects the fact that gender violence is increasingly being recognized as a stain on humanity and something that must and can be dealt with.
