If Not Now, When? Youth in Rwanda at the centre of the ICPD Agenda

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) – a milestone in reproductive health and rights. ICPD changed how the world thinks about population, development and reproductive rights. It put people first. What’s been achieved since the ICPD is inspiring and demonstrates how far determined people can go in toppling obstacles to a better world. Given the unfinished business, we must recommit to the vision of the ICPD and advance the agenda.

To better understand what the ICPD stands for and its importance, UNFPA is launching the “ICPD@25 Youth Photo Contest”. To learn more about the ICPD click here: https://www.unfpa.org/icpd

People below 35 years make up 78% of the population in Rwanda. Adolescents and youth have the right to accurate information, comprehensive sexuality education, and health services for their well-being and lifelong health. Youth voices should also be at the centre of the ICPD Programme of Action.

As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the ICPD, UNFPA is calling all youth in Rwanda to use photography as a means to express their views and stories around their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) today. Photographs should reflect on progress made in Rwanda and the unfinished business towards achieving universal access to SRHR, leaving no one behind.
