UNFPA donates hygienic kits to victims of rains in Rubavu District

Torrential rains destroyed schools, houses, banana plantation and other crops in East and Western provinces last week. Residents were left traumatized and some students were admitted at Zaza Health Centre.


The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has responded to the need of residents whose houses were destroyed by donating various home basics items.
Stuff made of blankets, hygienic kits and several other stuff were handed over to by the UNFPA Office in Charge, Mr. Benson Morah, last Wednesday.

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund handed over hygienic kits to residents of four sectors in Rubavu district (Western Province) affected by heavy rains of October 3rd, 2009.

This aimed at helping affected families to face the current difficult times before recovering their normal life. In total, 208 families were assisted in Cyanzarwe, Busasamana, Gisenyi and Rubavu sectors. Every family received a kit comprising of blankets, kitenge, towels, soaps, hygienic tissues, bucks, etc. Kits were produced in collaboration with the National Women Council.

The ceremony took place in Rubavu district on October 14th, 2009; it was led by the Mayor of Rubavu district, Mr. Pierre Célestin Twagirayezu and UNFPA Officer in charge, Mr. Benson Morah.
